Food, Food, Food!

That’s is one of the vital things in the survival kit. Be it Italian or Chinese or Indian or American or Japanese cuisine, all equally matters. It’s just a choice of menu, and it varies with people across the world. In the end, eating healthy and having hygienic food matters the most.

Try to respect the food we have, be it your favorite one or the least preferred one. We have most minor preferences, but that becomes the living for people who face food scarcity issues. It’s heartbreaking to hear from organizations that we produce more than enough food to feed the entire global population, yet hunger prevailing.

Small farmers, herders, and fishermen provide about 70% of the food to the worldwide supply, yet they are the most vulnerable to food scarcity and hunger issues. Measures are being taken to reduce the food scarcity issues, but a healthy diet is out of the reach for many people having poverty issues.

A healthy diet isn’t about staying thin or having strict limitations. It’s all about eating the food in balanced quantities and making sure you stay active and stay without any illness. A balanced diet is where you eat different types of food to get all the essential nutrients. This varies with the individual, and they have to figure out what they need in self or with the help of professionals.

Another pathetic scenario in our daily lives which is one of the reasons for food scarcity, is wasting food. Roughly a third of the world’s food is wasted. Personally, I have seen people throwing vast quantities of food in the bins in various places. Some reasons that I hear for wasting are, do not have time to eat the entire meal, cooking or buying the meals in extra quantity, don’t like the food, the meal isn’t cooked correctly, and the reasons build upon.

We hear the food scarcity statistics every time, and many of us feel pitiful about the situation but don’t really act on the problem. Some might ask what we can really do about this. Yes, we can make a change by doing some of the small initiatives. Small initiatives by many people can transform the world. This is not just for reducing food wastage. It can be implemented for any problem we face in the world.

Some of the suggestions from my side to make small initiatives for reducing food wastage are,

  1. For individuals:

to reduce food wastage are to get quantities of how much you can eat, eat early so that you have time to finish the meal, get a limited amount of the food that you try new, and get more if you like, check the expiry date on food products.

2. For organizations:

make sure the vessels are clean, check the quality of food, make sure hygiene is maintained.

The fun fact is what I told you isn’t something new, and you might have heard these from many people in your circle, from elders to teachers and so on.

The difficulty comes now: How can we follow such things daily?

Yes, breaking this challenge is rewarding, and there are ways to break this. It looks tricky, but it’s not something that we cannot do. It’s in your hands to reduce the food wastage that you do personally.

[P.S: I Will give insights on how to make something a habit as another post since it’s the big picture to look upon and talk about and will post soon :) ]
